ABSTRACT

In a recent supervision, my supervisee told me that she was so pleased that we were having supervision now, because she felt totally depleted and knew that when she came to supervision she always left feeling recharged. In the past, I would have felt flattered and worked hard to best resource her. However, on this occasion I paused and then said: “I think we might need to review how we are doing supervision together, so we can discover how supervision can stop being a petrol station where you go to be refuelled and instead becomes a place that helps you create a solar panel on your heart, so you constantly tap into renewable energy in the midst of the work. Our supervision gradually changed from being a resource she tapped into, to a place that helped her re-source herself.
