ABSTRACT

Whilst examining returns from forest resources the interface between forest (msitu), field (shamba) and bush land (port) was often found to be blurred by local people. Hence, although this section is entitled ‘forest products’, both field and bushland derived products have also been identified by local people. In remaining faithful to the way local people identify returns from forest resources, the relationship between forest, field and bushland-derived products and local dependency on each of these resources for certain products can be examined.
