ABSTRACT
Bifunctional buildings, where one’s residence and workplace are near each other, have played a very important role in urban living and it is very common in Southeast Asian cities. The kind of this bifunctional building, called ‘shophouse’, mixes the function of carrying out business activities that are normally on the ground floor or the front portion with the function of providing living space on the floor above or at the back portion of the building.
