ABSTRACT

A Geological Medley us. Though they have lacked the knowledge of limestone's origin, yet the unconscious fantasies of many races have directed artists to attain spatial completeness in their use of this stone. Except in terms of these fantasies connected with limestone we cannot explain either the ebullient life, the stone-blossom of Quattro Cento marble carving, or the complete and final revelation, the spectacular translation of time into space implicit in Quattro Cento limestone architecture.
