ABSTRACT

This chapter starts with some descriptive statistics and then proceed to the results of the testing of the hypotheses. Two additional analyses have been performed on the establishment of clusters of quangos and the amount of accountability requirements imposed upon quangos. The results of these additional analyses are used to improve the interpretation of the results of the testing of the hypotheses. The choice of politicians for quangos as an executive agent is measured as the number of decisions to establish a quango(s) per year. A decision is reflected by the passing of a law, which constitutes the legal basis of the quango or cluster at hand. To ascertain the differences between decisions to establish single quango and decisions to establish clusters of quangos, a separate analysis is performed of the number of established quangos per year. The same hypotheses are tested as before, and the same three models are used: base model, rational actor model, and bounded rationality model.
