ABSTRACT

The "degree of active space" depends on managerial ability and regional creativity. One of the theoretical roots of an "active space approach" can be found in the emphasis of the Austrian school of thought on the creative function of the market: the market is an instrument that transfers incentives for economic changes. The typical firm in traditional micro economic theory is without dimensions and exhibits "representative" behaviour, a behaviour which is determined by the conditions firms are facing. There are two reasons for the neglect of economic theory. The first resides in the specific interest: in economics the firm is a player in a game with many actors; the interest is in the game and in its outcome, not so much in the specific play or in the result of the play for single actors. The second reason is the basic theoretical orientation.
