ABSTRACT

The mature organisation which we described in the chapter above, is one where its scale and scope demands respect, both within its own sector and beyond. It is capable of standing on its own and of making its way in a competitive environment. The determining factors for any organisation which develops to this level are bound up in its history, the capability of the central personalities, its own assessment of strategic opportunities, the relative strengths and weaknesses of other players in the field and the wider political context. Whether or not it decides to develop further will be influenced by these factors.
