ABSTRACT
The Negro Ensemble Company (NEC) was an outgrowth of the 1960s American civil rights era. NEC developed new plays by and about Black people around the world. This chapter contains a brief history of the NEC, commentary from co-founder Douglas Turner Ward, and interviews with key artists from the alumni about their experiences at the NEC.
