ABSTRACT

Fémi Sarah Heggie, one of the first African American females to receive an Equity card as stage manager, talks about how she switched from journalism to falling in love with the theatre through an assignment to interview actors at the Negro Ensemble Company (NEC). Her career includes resident stage manager at the NEC and Broadway productions that include Bubbling Brown Sugar, Jelly’s Last Jam, The Song of Jacob Zulu, and Once on This Island. She has worked in several regional theatres and has mentored many stage managers.
