An Example of a Discussion with Colleagues as Part of the Analysis Strategy

Richard's story of thrownness involved students expectation of nursing in the accident and emergency department in comparison with the television programme, 'E R\ Perceptively, Richard talked about how, on television, the camera enjoys the richness of each scenario happening behind curtains and how the viewer is informed from an allobserving, all-knowing perspective. In real life, one nurse is most often assigned to one patient and therefore does not have insight into all cases behind the curtains. Richard believed that students are thrown by this restricted perspective and that they are disappointed that their experience in the department is not as exciting as anticipated.
