ABSTRACT

There is no underestimating the great significance that the size of communities has on the nature and quality of peoples' lives. The fact that news must be timely is illustrated by the fact that in the study of commodities, newspapers are considered to be a "perishable" item. The size of the paper, the frequency of the paper, the freshness of the paper, and the quality of the paper all correspond with community size. But it does mean that the general amounts of information available increase with increasing city size. This would be especially true of people who work in industries where personal contact and information is particularly important. It is commonplace to travel down the highway to take in an event. Another subtle area where the hierarchy of communities has an influence on the quality of people's daily lives is when it comes to fads, innovations, or inventions.
