ABSTRACT

Entrepreneurship and new venture creation have continued to flourish around the globe. Developing and transforming countries are also adopting entrepreneurship as a growing, visible and vibrant economic activity. The new Germany faces a unique set of challenges as the nation strives to improve eastern standards while sustaining the socioeconomic prosperity of its western regions. In terms of economic geography, unification has added a large but structurally weak region to the Federal Republic of Germany. The new Germany provides a once in a lifetime living laboratory in which to explore entrepreneurship. On one hand, established family-led Mittelstand firms in West Germany are responding to generational change and the need for new entrepreneurial leadership. On the other hand, East Germany must rely on entrepreneurship and new venture creation to improve the quality of life. The Entrepreneurial Profile Questionnaire (EPQ) was utilized as a data collection instrument. The EPQ was designed to survey the effect of individual, societal, and environmental factors on entrepreneurship.
