ABSTRACT

Electrical power affects nearly everything that humans do, at home, at work, while shopping, visiting the doctor, going to a museum or concert, sporting event, and so on. The most commonly understood form of electrical power is the rating system for old-style incandescent light bulbs, which are commonly available in 25, 40, 60, and 100 watt versions. A surge occurs when the voltage moves above the normal range. The voltage that is delivered from the utility is never constant and it can vary 5" from the standard rated voltage. The primary purpose of electrical equipment is to provide over-current protection for wiring and fault protection for safety. Switchboards are the largest type of equipment commonly used indoors in buildings, and they would normally be "service-rated", which means that they meet the NEC's requirements for connection by the utility company. For uses where the generator is required, diesel fuel is usually preferred because the fuel is uninterruptible.
