ABSTRACT

The phenomenon of mortality is thought to exhibit a primordial clash between earth and world facticity, which may further be understood as a kind of dialectic between the call of Being emanating from the earth, and the historical response of the mortals as a world. Prior to any ethical creed or ideological struggle, the tension between the sending of Being through earth-facticity, and the response of Dasein manifest as the production of a world predominantly comported towards technological enframing, is thought of here as the 'question of ethos'. In the attempt to lay bare the phenomena involved in the clash between the Being of the mortals and the Being of beings, an account of what is meant by facticity will be given and our own conception of 'earth' and 'world' facticity proffered. The facticity of Dasein primarily emerges from the given existence of Dasein who may subsequently go on to derive the cogito as another given.
