ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses the conditions that an engaging task or curriculum must have-the “flow” experience in which students feel competent and in control, challenged but not overwhelmed, able to see the point of the experience and feel their own growth, and able to see how the task applies to their immediate experience. The chapter suggests instructional strategies and practices applicable to all subject areas that encourage and invite student engagement.
