ABSTRACT
This chapter begins with the question, why teach reading in social studies? The chapter examines answers related directly to an important learning goal for all adolescent students: to read, to think critically about, and to learn from texts that can contribute to students’ development as informed, responsible citizens. We offer numerous strategies to help teachers address the goal.
