ABSTRACT

Beekeeping emerged as an economical and profitable culture in 19th century due to implementation of advance and scientific approaches and generally practiced in places like forest areas, hills and agricultural lands, etc. This chapter discusses the potential of beekeeping and honey technology in India. Today, farmers and entrepreneurs are interested in apiculture due to its demand and want to earn higher profit by getting large production and collection of honey with the help of advance, scientific and technical methods of honey collection. In Apiculture, wooden rectangular boxes contain artificial beehives that are fixed on wooden or iron stands for rearing of honeybees and due to very less space required it has become very popular source of earning among small land holders, land-less community and entrepreneurs. Apiculture is very impactful and profitable because it does not require different parameters like cropping and agricultural activities, for example, no requirement of fertile land, water resources, irrigation, fertilizers, etc.
