ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the different types of education that organizations should consider effective ways to communicate principles, methodologies, and techniques to all stakeholders. The lowest level of education is awareness, which covers content in a generalized way. The purpose of this type of education is to ensure people have foundational knowledge without getting too detailed or specialized. Following the completion of a formalized education program, individuals can choose to become certified or accredited. Internationally, there are many professional organizations that have established certification and accreditation curriculums specific to digital forensics. With foundational knowledge acquired, practitioners can decide to further their education by expanding the scope of knowledge beyond those directly linked to the execution of digital forensics. Awareness training should be mandatory for all stakeholders and completed regularly, such as annually, to ensure up-to-date knowledge is maintained. Depending on the individual's role, knowledge on different principles, methodologies, and techniques would be required to maintain a specific standard of competency.
