ABSTRACT
Given the constraints identified in previous chapters, it is difficult to hold a concept of autonomy for older people in hospital as an individualistic right to do what one wants. The research data has identified complex interactional processes occurring in the relationship between nurses, patients, patients’ families and other health care professionals that prevent an individualistic concept of autonomy from prevailing.
