ABSTRACT
In order to illustrate the benefits of cultural intelligence, consider the vignette which describes the experience of a Japanese company that was bidding against American, British and German consortiums for the design and build of a chemical plant in Germany. In order to avoid the types of problems faced at the Westpac engagement and to realize the benefits of cultural intelligence, it is necessary to provide the consultant with a basic set of tools with which to develop the required sensitivities. Moreover, with the consultancy profession relying on straightforward tools and frameworks, firms and consultants alike would reject anything that was overly complex. Sociability is a measure of friendliness among members of a community, whether inside or outside work. In both forms, sociability shows that people within a community care for others. Solidarity is based upon the achievement of tasks which involve people who share common interests.
