ABSTRACT
When involved in lending or granting credit, the shadow of non-payment is always present. The length of this shadow increases as physical distances become greater and differences in legal systems and cultures become more marked. In most cases creditors can gain varying degrees of comfort through taking security over assets of the debtor or, as is becoming increasingly popular, retaining ownership of their own assets until such time as they are paid for in full (Retention of title).
