ABSTRACT

The analysis of the Tuscany situation is based on an economic view of marginality, namely to that of low income levels. Methodologically the analysis of the level and spatial dispersion of the quality of life in Tuscany has been done with the help of multivariate analysis. The debate on the role and evolution of rural regions in the European Union is quite vivid; consequently it is important to analyze the correlation between the previously examined aspects of quality of life and the Urban-Rural dimension. The connection between the Urban-Rural dimension and some of the aspects of quality of life could have some important implication for policies. The dimensions of ‘ageing’ and ‘family crisis’equally concur with the Urban-Rural dimension. The fourth dimension of ‘low birth rate’, however, gives a mixed picture that is more difficult to interpret. It most likely is ‘signifying’ the change in values that has taken place in Italy.
