ABSTRACT

The death of Moses, the settlement of the promised land by Joshua or Jesus and the establishment of Jerusalem as the place of the name of God, are set out swiftly in this chapter. It says that section of Demonstration notes that the prophets are sent by God through the Holy Spirit to this place of the name of God. Faith, whether it be the faith of the old or the new covenants which faith is the same in both for it is of 'one substance', being variously centred on the Word made flesh either in promise or fulfilment rests primarily on the faithfulness of God. Having introduced this cosmic sweep of the triumph of the Word made flesh as the fulfilment of the dispensation of God, Irenaeus characteristically descends to a consideration of the particular yet again. The essential Word-centred theology of Irenaeus is made clear.
