ABSTRACT

By showing an interest in the psycho-social consequences of the leukaemia diagnosis, those responsible for the care of such patients can gain increased knowledge about the elements, apart from survival, that are important to the patient and how they can best help him. This aspect is especially important in palliative care, where the treatment should be focused on what is best for the patient. It should not cause unnecessary suffering but give the patient a chance to live as well as possible the remaining time of life.
