ABSTRACT

Probability means the likelihood of something to happen. Probability is expressed as a fraction, a ratio, or a percent. The word probability is used interchangeably with the word chance. This is because probability is defined as the chance that something will happen. Probability can also involve lengths and areas rather than countable outcomes. In this case, the probability would equal the successful length/area divided by the total length/area. To find the probability that two events both occur, multiply their individual probabilities. Casework is the process of splitting a complex event into different cases that are manageable, finding the probability of each case, and adding these probabilities to obtain the probability of the entire event. Probability introduces another way of calculating averages. The way to calculate the weighted average of a set is to multiply each element by its weight and add all of the results.
