ABSTRACT

Figurative sculptor. He trained at the West of England College of Art in Bristol (1959-64) and taught sculpture there (1964-6). Starting as a designer of domestic items in aluminium, glass and enamel (1966-9), he worked in Heidelberg, in Brussels and in Switzerland. He moved to live in Almunecar, Granada, in 1971-4. His portrait commissions include those of Prince Charles of Luxembourg and his family (1971) and he portrayed Princess Nicoletta Boncompagni in Rome (1972.). Other notable portraits have been those of Sir Kyffin Williams, José Carreras, Dame Alicia Markova (1973) and Sir Colin Davis for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. In 1975 he had a one-man exhibition at the Lad Lane Gallery, Dublin, and the Century Galleries held a Retrospective of his work in 1980. He has had further solo exhibitions at Catto Gallery, Hampstead, at the Orangery, Holland Park (1989) and at Bruton Street Gallery (1999). His wide range of figurative sculpture also includes the nude, for example Primitive Dance (1973, bronze) and equestrian subjects. Among his many commissions, Pilgrim (2000, bronze), an over-life-size standing figure, is in the Palace Gardens, Wells Cathedral.
