ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book introduces new frameworks for the critical consideration of diaries, pushing back against some of the most familiar and influential myths about the genre. It explores a wide variety of diary forms and conventions, and addresses the paradoxes, ongoing debates, and essential questions surrounding the genre. The book describes diaries written across the globe, across the long history of the genre, and in diverse mediums ranging from paper manuscripts to microblogging networks. What follows are a few suggestions about how to do so, directed primarily at those who are not sure where to start. The book discusses thinking about four things: Content, Structure, Audience, and Medium.
