ABSTRACT

The importance of the level of social protection during unemployment, in terms of the willingness of the unemployed to take up work, is by no means uncontroversial. Activation for the unemployed has become increasingly important in recent years, both in Germany and in numerous other European countries. There are a number of different approaches and strategies regarding activation for the unemployed; primarily these focus either on material pressures and constraints, or on effective advice and support for the unemployed. The fundamentally existing starting points and strategies that play a role in the context of activation for the unemployed will be analyzed in a more differentiated fashion. A further approach in the activation for the unemployed is the intensive advice and guidance provided for unemployed people. The increased involvement of third parties already envisaged in the Job-AQTIV law is to contribute to expanding the capacity for employee placement and advice for the unemployed.
