ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book examines how responsibility for taking action in response to pollution is reported in the Asia-Pacific media, with a specific focus on the sources of the risks and harms posed by atmospheric and other forms of pollution in Australia, China and Japan. It highlights the similarities and differences in how responsibility is manifest, given the sources of pollution in the Asia-Pacific; and focuses on how the responses to specific cases of pollution are instrumentalised in Australia, China and Japan. The book demonstrates 'smart cities' and smart initiatives that are being introduced in Australia, China and Japan. The goal of the smart society is to employ technological innovation in a way to maintain economic growth at the same time as the sources of risks and harms produced by pollution.
