ABSTRACT

In the previous chapter we recommended a three-part structure as the best basis for planning your presentation. In this chapter and the two that follow we examine each of those parts in detail. The first thing to observe is that there are specific objectives belonging to each part. Similarly, each part corresponds to some of the seven points that make up the listener's thinking sequence described in Chapter 1. The beginning of the presentation, for example, corresponds to the first two steps in that sequence:

(1) I am important and want to be respected.

(2) Consider my needs.
