ABSTRACT

Technology adoption has always been challenging to technologists, business managers and executives. They grapple with the selection and timing to pilot specific technologies, and the methods, tools and techniques necessary to successfully pilot and then deploy new technologies. Rapid technology adoption will become a way of life for twenty-first century companies and the professionalization of technology adoption will continue to increase dramatically. The survey and interview data suggest that companies are reacting to the pace of technology change, consumerization and the immediate need for digital transformation with new approaches to technology adoption. The data described the influence of Shadow IT and consumerization. Industries such as consumer, media and retail are more open to the idea of adopting emerging technology to reduce costs and to enable digital transformation. The pace of technology and business change has perhaps forever changed the way companies pilot and deploy new technologies.
