ABSTRACT

The unprecedented body of knowledge, innovation, and intellectuals produced by the establishment of universities was greeted with optimism in Europe and became one of the most important driving forces that birthed modern science and the scientific revolution. Confucian education is focused on the elevation of man to the level of superior man of moral character that he may gain self-dignity in the noblest form. Confucian Great Learning provides an insight into the trajectory of a Confucian social-moral agenda. The education of a Confucian man has at its center the creation of a perfect state where people can live in harmony in a community of learned human beings. Philosophy taught side by side with religion provided a most potent instrument for Catholic evangelization; that is why Christianity is one religion that requires philosophy be integral part of priestly formation. For religious persuasion requires the potency of reason, though Catholicism retains the primacy of 63faith, and philosophy is a handmaid of religion.
