ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses the possibilities for cross-sector partnerships ensuing from corporate community involvement in London. It describes the policies and activities of three London-based companies with a strategic approach to corporate social responsibility. The chapter also analyses the strategic approach with regard to community involvement of three London-based companies: energy supplier Centrica, manufacturer of foods and beverages Diageo, and network and infrastructure manager Lattice. The many and manifold authorities in London are an obstacle to the smooth and decisive settlement of important matters, and were even more so while there was no central administration. London First is funded through the membership subscriptions of private companies and institutions of higher education. Local governments experience an encourage to evolve Local Strategic Partnerships with private enterprise because the national government takes cooperativeness into account when allocating budgets for social-economic revitalising. Four principles constitute the guideline for the strategy: economic growth; knowledge and learning; diversity, inclusion and innovation; and sustainable development.
