ABSTRACT

Increasingly everyone, every organization and every country is becoming more and more interested in the quality and even quantity of talent. It has been looked at rather extensively at the individual and organizational (i.e., company level) for the past twenty years; it has been less extensively examined at the country level, or macro level. But actually a great deal of information does exist on talent at the country level, information that can be very useful at the country level, and also at the individual and company level. This book is about talent-related information at the country level and this chapter is about talent-related information for the United States. We examine an extensive number of sources of country-level for the United States from a wide variety of existing databases, drawing upon multiple reports, websites, and agencies that specialize in providing this level of talent information. We then organize this information about the United States based on a model of macro talent management and attempt to provide the reader with a relatively in depth look at the macro talent characteristics in the United States. We conclude with some thoughts and suggestions for future work on this topic.
