ABSTRACT

In many cities cycling and the velomobility of people is restricted and marginalized. This has been analyzed by some researchers. However, such research often deals with cycling in cities that could be described as ‘bicycle hostile.’ This chapter analyzes the problems perceived by cyclists in Copenhagen, Denmark, and compares it to that of cyclists in Stockholm, Sweden. Through two survey studies the problems of urban velomobility are analyzed. The analysis is set in the theoretical frameworks of mobilities theory and urban space wars and analyzed from a spatial perspective. It becomes clear through the survey studies that cyclists in both cities see similar problems.
