ABSTRACT

Most opportunely, Maestro Casals re-introduced, in his last spring programme, the symphonic suite called Cançons i danses de l’illa de Mallorca, by Baltasar Samper, who has lately obtained in Paris a brilliant and well-deserved reaction amongst audience and critics alike. 60 The performances of this work, already heard on several occasions in Barcelona, had this time a special interest for it was directed by the composer himself, who managed to bring out the powerful implications of a score, a warmer emotiveness and a personal accent of singular vigour and effectiveness.
