ABSTRACT

DEFINITION Prenatal care is the care provided to pregnant women with the aim to prevent complications and decrease the incidence of perinatal and maternal morbidity and mortality [1]. This care consists of health promotion, risk assessment, and intervention linked to the risks and conditions uncovered. These activities require the cooperative and coordinated efforts of the woman, her family, her prenatal care providers, and other specialized providers. Prenatal care begins when conception is rst considered and continues until labor begins. The objectives of prenatal care for the mother, infant, and family relate to outcomes through the rst year following birth [1].
