EPIDEMIOLOGY/INCIDENCE • Approximately 0.2%–1% of all pregnancies are compli-
cated by placental abruption [3-5]. The incidence in the United States has increased, especially in the AfricanAmerican population, the ethnic group at highest risk, in particular for severe (or grade 3) abruption [3].
