ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND For “cardiac disease in pregnancy,” this guideline reviews maternal cardiac disease. These women are at higher risk for cardiovascular complications, neonatal complications, and even maternal death [1,2]. Concern for cardiac decompensation occurs when the heart, either from acquired or congenital physiologic or structural defects, is unable to accommodate pregnancy physiology or dynamics of parturition. There are no trials of intervention specific for cardiac disease in pregnancy.
