ABSTRACT

DEFINITION A fetus with EFW ≥4000 g can be presumed to be macrosomic. Macrosomic newborns can be classified as grades I (birth weight 4000-4499 g), II (4500-4999 g), and III (≥5000 g)  [1]. This classification is clinically relevant because the grades are associated with different types of complications. Instead, a fetus is large for gestational age (LGA) when his/her EFW is estimated to be >95% for gestational age.
