ABSTRACT

PREGNANCY MANAGEMENT Pregnancy Considerations Chickenpox is a more severe disease in the adult than in the child. In pregnant women, frequency of VZV, frequency of pneumonia, and mortality are not increased compared to nonpregnant adults. Pneumonia may be more severe in pregnant women with up to an overall 5% risk of maternal death even with therapy although a more recent study reported no maternal deaths among 23 cases of VZV pneumonia diagnosed during pregnancy [3].
