ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the application of figurational sociology to qualitative research in the form of semi-structured interviews (SSIs). It illustrates how SSIs offer a particularly productive data collection method for exploring social processes within figurations, particularly in relation to blind social processes and unplanned outcomes. Attention is also given to how figurational sociology and grounded theory can be integrated in research in order to enhance the ongoing engagement with empirical data and theory in order to develop object adequate accounts of social phenomena. A selective review of research studying local policy implementation in healthcare organizations and community-based public health and health promotion initiatives form the basis of the chapter.
