ABSTRACT

Due to a great deal of research in neuroscience, the understanding of trauma has advanced over the last two decades. This knowledge has brought a wealth of insight into how to manage acute stress and trauma symptoms. The good news is that there are many techniques that individuals can use to build their resilience. The author has created a resilience toolkit acronym using the word RESPECT: Relaxation, Education, Social, Physical, Exercise, Creativity and Thinking. This acronym allows the reader to develop their own personal resilience toolkit protecting them from acute stress and trauma, and creating a ‘first aid kit’ to recover from acute stress and trauma. These techniques are a combination or eastern and western resources, and are used globally.
