ABSTRACT
The work incentives debate is primarily a debate about money and not about work ethics. Lottery winners, wealthy property owners, footballers who retire at 25 or prosperous heirs are not targeted in the discussion. Only those who claim benefits are scrutinised and in many cases found undeserving of provision. Self-reliance and financial independence are promoted as the prime values by libertarians.
