ABSTRACT

The Implementation Stage is the stage that requires most of the effort, time, and cost. Most of the project management effort, at this stage, is about managing the day-to-day work to ensure delivery of the project per the requirements and the original project objectives. Control is happening from the project brief. However, in most cases, some of the implementation work will stretch to Stage Gate (SG)7, and in rare occasions to SG8. During the implementation of any project, whether taking a trip or developing a green building, things will happen that would not be in accordance to plan. These are variances or deviations from the baseline. A good project manager should look ahead to avoid potential problems or variances. Some practitioners might prefer to use the term performance measurement, which is fine, but management is more results oriented in comparison to measurement. The team must establish the control reference points, or baselines, with a focus on the time-phased budget.
