ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book talks about the role technology plays in sustaining narratives of living, dying, and coming into being. It describes about life and technology is thus simply organized in the three sections reflected in its title: birth, life, and death. The book examines rituals of giving life, coming to life, and raising life. It focuses on life and the networked self, examines how technology sustains our ways of thinking and being. The book addresses the role technology plays in helping us come to terms with the conclusion of the life course. It also talks about the art of life and what that means for a networked sense of self. The book explains that a networked sense of being is formed around gestures of expression and connection.
