ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the feminist and LGBTQ+ movements as issues of social justice, while simultaneously looking at how Community Psychology plays a role in partnering with these causes. Within this chapter, we seek to highlight the need for intersectionality as we uncover the layers of oppression influencing who does and does not get a seat at the table. Readers can also expect to learn of the importance of language within both movements, as we delve deeper into how our word choice can both oppress and empower. We close with a discussion of how power and privilege can be used to create spaces for oppressed communities as we together strive for empowerment.
