ABSTRACT

Common with most CMEA countries, Poland operated its own register of shipping - Polski Rejestr Statkow (PRS) - which was largely exclusive to Polish owned ships for the large majority of its years of existence under the communists. Its functions were those of a conventional ship registry but of course, it did not have to compete for vessel registration as all Polish vessels had to register with it.
