ABSTRACT
Chapter 5. The SMB and the Syrian revolution: This chapter focuses on the period from 2011’s revolutionary outburst in Syria until the most recent events, and addresses the role played by the SMB in their opposition to the regime in the fields of politics, military action and humanitarian aid, until the election in November 2014 of the current SMB leader, Muhammad Hikmat Walid, although important updates are also included. In addition, this chapter shows how their actions and statements regarding what we have called the democratic option of Islamism are in constant development.
