ABSTRACT

I arrive early. I enter the grand building in the City of London and introduce myself to the uniformed functionary who checks me in. I sit down in the entrance hall for the half an hour or so ahead of meeting Alexander for our first coaching session, and look around. People are turning up at work in a steady stream. I watch closely, notice their walks, varied expressions, and what they are ‘bodying forth’ – the way they are physically manifesting themselves and communicating their ‘presence’ as they enter their place of work and start a new day. I notice the human variation, the inevitable differences in appearance and gait, and their awareness of their surroundings – some are fixated on forward motion and getting to the elevators; others are a little slower and seem as if they are getting ready to talk to others.
